Early Saturday morning in Tampa’s vibrant Ybor City district turned tragic when a high-speed police chase ended with a car crashing into Bradley’s bar, killing four people and injuring eleven others, according to Tampa Police Department.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Silas Sampson, was reportedly involved in street racing and was spotted speeding on Interstate 275 just before the crash. Tampa Police Air Service was monitoring the vehicle when officers attempted a pit maneuver to stop the car near downtown but aborted the attempt due to the risk posed in the busy area.

Shortly after, Sampson lost control on 7th Avenue and crashed into patrons gathered on Bradley’s outdoor patio. Three victims died immediately; one more succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Among the 11 injured, several remain hospitalized while others were treated on site. All victims were adults enjoying a night out.

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw expressed deep sorrow: “These were people out to have a good time. A reckless driver took four lives and injured many others, leaving a community forever changed.”

Sampson was taken into custody and charged with vehicular homicide, with additional felony charges anticipated as the investigation continues. Florida Highway Patrol is also involved in the ongoing case.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns over street racing and reckless driving in Tampa. City officials are calling for stronger enforcement to prevent such fatal accidents in the future.

Road closures were necessary for hours to allow investigators to document the scene and clear debris. Witnesses described a chaotic and heartbreaking aftermath.

Support services are being offered to victims’ families and the Ybor City community as they cope with the tragedy.
